Known as Dang Shen in TCM, codonopsis is considered a gentler, more affordable alternative to ginseng for tonifying qi (vital energy). Where ginseng is warming and stimulating, codonopsis is milder and better suited to chronic fatigue, poor digestion, and immune depletion without overstimulation. It is one of the most frequently prescribed herbs in TCM, appearing in countless classical formulas for weakness, anaemia, and digestive deficiency. Excellent for the elderly and convalescent.
